SSA is a project to develop associate technology to support ship system’s operation with reduced manning. It consists of providing intelligent tools to ship operators that allow the operators to have increased awareness and to delegate responsibility to automated associates in order to shed workload. The U. of Michigan component of the overall project is being conducted in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. The overall effort is sponsored by ARPA, and the U. of Michigan effort is a subcontract through the ORINCON Corporation of San Diego.
